In the complex world of the 21st century, Transdisciplinarity, Interdisciplinarity and Multidisciplinarity are increasingly promoted as means to approach problems and issues.

All these terms refer to inquiry that brings together theoretical and methodological perspectives of different disciplines. More specifically, transdisciplinary research is an increasingly important approach to inquiry that seeks to go beyond the boundaries of existing disciplines and bring together the natural sciences, social sciences, humanities, and the arts. However, little is known about the implementation, efficacy, and outcomes of such approaches.

This workshop brings together experienced presenters from the natural and social sciences, the arts, business, and government who have embraced, experimented with, and reflected on the use and misuses of such transdisciplinary perspectives.

Presentations will address the what, who, when, why and why not of transdisciplinarity with a view to enhancing our effectiveness in using a transdisciplinary approach to address current multifaceted societal challenges.

We anticipate this workshop will be of interest to many here at McGill regardless of discipline
