The Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA): Research Programs
Dr. Ismahane Elouafi, Director of the Research Management and Partnerships Division at the Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA), will present an overview of CFIA activities and research programs for its 3 business lines: Food safety, Animal Health and Plant Health. It will also explore potential areas of collaboration between CFIA and Academia.
The CFIA is a regulatory agency dedicated to safeguarding food, animals and plants, which enhances the health and well-being of Canada’s people, environment and economy. Through the delivery of inspection services, the Agency manages public health risks associated with the food supply and the transmission of animal diseases to humans; protects the animal and plant resource base; and provides consumer protection and access to domestic and international markets. As Canada’s largest science-based regulatory agency, CFIA relies on scientific research and laboratory services to ensure food safety, animal health, and plant protection and respond to new challenges and threats (new diseases, contaminants and pests).
