  plant resource base\;\nand provides consumer protection and access to dom
 estic and\ninternational markets. As Canada’s largest science-based regula
 tory\nagency\, CFIA relies on scientific research and laboratory services
 \nto ensure food safety\, animal health\, and plant protection and\nrespon
 d to new challenges and threats (new diseases\, contaminants\nand pests).
