The Americanization of International Commercial Arbitration

The McGill Arbitration Society invites you to a panel discussion on the Americanization of International Commercial Arbitration, featuring internationally-renowned arbitration experts Anne Marie Whitesell and Pedro Martinez-Fraga. The panel discussion will be moderated by Professor Fabien Gélinas.

The debate will be followed by a cocktail sponsored by Woods LLP.

This training activity is accredited by the Barreau du Québec for 1.5 hours of Mandatory Continuing Legal Education. Barreau activity no. 10034749.

THE SPEAKERS

Anne Marie Whitesell is the former Secretary General of the ICC International Court of Arbitration and currently of Counsel with Dechert LLP. As Secretary General of the ICC, Ms. Whitesell supervised more than a thousand international arbitration cases each year involving parties from more than 120 countries.  She also worked closely with the 126 members of the International Court of Arbitration, who hailed from 88 different countries, and contributed to the institution's profile and reputation around the world. She has published numerous articles on international arbitration and has taught at Université de Paris I, Panthéon-Sorbonne and the Institut de Droit Comparé (Université de Paris II).

Pedro Martinez-Fraga is the Director of the Department and Practice of International Litigation and Arbitration for Squire, Sanders & Dempsey, and L.L.P. He has published more than fifty articles and four books regarding public and private international law, including the recent book "American Influences on International Commercial Arbitration". Mr. Martínez-Fraga is a Visiting Professor of Law at the Universidad de Navarra in Pamplona, Spain, an Adjunct Professor of International Litigation and Arbitration at the University of Miami School of Law, and an Honorary Professor of Law at the Universidad San Ignacio de Loyola in Lima, Peru. He has represented numerous sovereigns and acted as an arbitrator on ICSID panels.
