153rd Meeting James McGill Society "The Cosmic Gift of Neutron Stars"

Monday, May 9, 2011 17:00to18:30
Rutherford Physics Building 3600 rue University, Montreal, QC, H3A 2T8, CA
Doctor Victoria Kaspi, Lorne Trottier Chair and Canada Research Chair, Department of Physics, will discuss how neutron stars, thousands of light years away, can act as precise cosmic beacons. Their observations permit meaningful, quantitative tests of physical theories in extreme regimes currently inaccessible in terrestrial laboratories, such as gravity, density, and magnetic field.
