Volunteer with MORSL: Welcome Hall Mission

Wednesday, September 25, 2024 08:00to12:00
H Building Concordia University--meet in front of auditorium (1st floor), 1550 Boulevard De Maisonneuve Ouest, Montreal, QC, H3G 1N2, CA
Price:
free

Join students and staff from the Office of Religious and Spiritual Life and Concordia’s Multi-faith and Spirituality Centre in service at the Welcome Hall Mission. We’ll help Welcome Hall Mission staff prepare food donations for clients of their Marché Bon Accueil, a grocery-story like market that serves up to 3,000 low-income Montrealers each week. Inspired by Eboo Patel’s Interfaith Youth Corps programming, this service-learning opportunity allows individuals from a variety of backgrounds to come together in support of a good cause in the local community, and, while working together, to get to know each other and build links.  MfSC and MORSL staff will facilitate reflection during the morning to give participants opportunities to articulate the values and desires that motivate them to engage in community service, and to hear others’ perspectives on the same question. This event is part of the Theology in the City Conference.

We will all meet at Concordia's Hall building on the first floor, in front of the auditorium, at 8:00 AM. From there, we will all take the metro towards our destination by 8:20 AM sharp.

Participants should wear comfortable clothing and must wear close-toed shoes (sandals are not allowed).

Welcome Hall serves a vulnerable clientele and we need to help keep them safe. If you answer yes to any of the following questions prior to the event, please cancel your registration on myInvolvement so that a different student can participate:

  • have you been diagnosed with Covid-19 in the last 5 days?
  • have you had a fever in the last 24 hours?
  • in the last 10 days, have you been in direct contact (less than 2 m without a mask for more than 15 minutes) with someone diagnosed with Covid-19?

Please note: Welcome Hall counts on us to help them complete their tasks, and needs to know our attendance one week before the event. If you register, please make sure to attend unless you are ill or have an emergency situation. Also please note that if you register to volunteer, MORSL will be required to share your first name with the staff at Welcome Hall before the event.
