The Royal Canadian Geographical Society recently stunned many Canadians by choosing the grey jay over the common loon as the organization’s candidate to become Canada’s national bird. The announcement was made on Nov. 16, 2016, at the College of Fellows’ Annual Dinner in the Canadian War Museum. Op-ed by David M. Bird, Emeritus Professor of Wildlife Biology, Montreal Gazette.
Co-founders of the start-up ACSYNAM, Inc., a spin-off venture from the McGill University Department of Chemistry, have been selected as one of the ten incredible semi-finalists to compete for a €100,000 prize in the 2016 Skolar Award competition. Dr. Cristina Mottillo, post-doctoral researcher and CSO of ACSYNAM, Inc., will be representing the team by presenting a three-minute science pitch to a panel of judges and an audience from non-scientific backgrounds.
The Association of McGill University Research Employees (AMURE) unit representing postdoctoral researchers and McGill University have agreed on all aspects of a first collective agreement. The final elements were agreed on at a meeting the two parties held on November 25.
The University will soon submit the tentative agreement for approval to McGill’s senior leadership. The union and the University will then finalize the text of the agreement and the union will submit it to the vote of its membership at a date to be communicated later.
