Project Description

Community, Capability and Development in Nunavik is a research project exploring social issues and community assets in Nunavik. The project is a collaboration between researchers from McGill School of Social Work and an Advisory Committee composed of representatives from key institutions in Nunavik.

The research team conducted 52 semi-structured, face-to-face interviews with leaders and residents of Ivujivik, Kangiqsujuaq, Inukjuak, Kuujjuaq, and Puvirnituq. Interview questions, given respondents in English and Inuktitut, explored perceptions of communal strengths and challenges. Drawing on these data, our analysis examines the family's role in addressing major social issues, along with thoughts on self-government, culture, and the future of education. It is our hope that the findings of the study will help shape policy recommendations for the future Nunavik government, including those for strengthening Inuit families.
