Mark Lefsrud
QAQCC Director, Associate Professor and William Dawson Scholar

Dr. Lefsrud is an Associate Professor at McGill University, QAQCC Director and Head of the Biomass Production Lab. His upbringing on a farm, work in Alberta’s oil fields, B.Sc. and M.Sc. in Agricultural and Bioresource Engineering, as well as a Ph.D. in Plant Physiology provides an exceptional background in controlled environments and agricultural engineering.
Work in the The Biomass Production Lab spans three main research areas: (i) Energy-efficient and augmented food crop production in controlled environments; (ii) Bio-regenerative life support systems for extended space missions; iii) Safety and QAQC for medicinal plant production and plant-derived products. We actively work with industry to find solutions for both long- and short-term challenges in biomass production, postharvest processing and environmental control.
