Regional Anesthesia/Acute Pain for Residents and Fellows
Dr. Asenjo graduated from the Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile and completed a Residency in Anesthesiology at the Universidad de Chile. He then completed his training with a Cardiac Anesthesia Fellowship at l’Université de Montréal and another Fellowship in Pain and Regional Anesthesia at McGill University, both in Montreal Qc, Canada.
He joined the faculty ranks at McGill in December 2000 and has practiced since at the MUHC. Dr. Asenjo developed and founded the formal Fellowships in Regional Anesthesia, the Fellowship in Spine Perioperative medicine and the former Fellowship in Cancer/interventional and Acute Pain. He has authored over 40 peer-reviewed papers and 12 book chapters and has taught all over the world. Dr. Asenjo has served in humanitarian and teaching missions in Africa, Asia and the Middle East.
Dr. Asenjo was part of the founding team of the ASRA regional anesthesia fellowship and the IASP Chilean Chapter.
Over the years, more than 120 Fellows and visitors have trained under his wing at McGill.
Presently, Dr. Asenjo holds MD licenses in several Canadian provinces where he does clinical work and teaches anesthesia.
Dr. Asenjo’s passions are his family, aviation and his clinical work.
