As previously announced in the McGill Reporter and on this site, IT Services will be doubling your McGill Password if you have not yet changed it since asked in May. Once your password is doubled, when you log in to any McGill system or computer with your McGill Username and Password (e.g. email, wireless, VPN, myCourses), you will have to type out your password twice.
If you have not already made the switch to McGill’s new, more secure Virtual Private Network (VPN), time is running out. The old VPN, inside.mcgill.ca, will be deactivated on November 12. To avoid losing access to internal McGill systems and resources when off campus, set up a new VPN connection today.

Trend Micro Internet Security 2015 is now available for Windows and Mac, for home use. This antivirus software is provided by McGill, free for full-time students, faculty and staff to install on their personal computers. Find information and instructions at: http://kb.mcgill.ca/it/antivirus
A phishing attempt is circulating purporting to come from RBC Express (Royal Bank of Canada), with the Subject: "Important Notice for all RBC Express Online Users". It seems to be targeted to McGill staff and asks recipients to sign in using their RBC login credentials.
Please delete this email immediately! It is a phishing scam.

Starting in December 2014*, Microsoft will begin offering McGill faculty and staff members FREE access to Office 365 ProPlus. This offering includes the Office 2013 versions of Word, Excel, PowerPoint and other Office apps, and will replace the current Microsoft Work at Home program.
McGill's Online Surveys (surveys.mcgill.ca) will be unavailable for about 30 minutes during the maintenance window on Tuesday, October 28, 2014 between 9pm and midnight.

A notification was accidentally sent out to a number of computers on campus. This notification gives users the option to install the Windows 7 Enterprise 64bit operating system by clicking on Run. It could either appear as a popup, or a notification in the System Tray on the lower right-hand corner of your computer screen.
If you did recieve this notification, press Close. If you accidentally hit Run, please contact the IT Service Desk immediately.
There is currently a virus infecting computers via email attachments. In the latest fraud reported at McGill, the subject of the email is You have received a voice mail, and the attachment contains the virus.
If you receive any emails containing .ZIP file attachments, DO NOT open them.
