MONTREAL - Francis Verreault-Paul of
Mashteuiatsh, Que., is the McGill University - Ye Olde Orchard
athlete of the week, for the period ending Mar. 25, 2012.
A 5-foot-10, 180-pound forward with the hockey Redmen, he won
the Major W.J. 'Danny' McLeod Award as the most valuable
player of the CIS men's hockey championship in
Fredericton last week. McGill captured their
first-ever University Cup title after a 6-3 win over
Moncton (Mar. 22), a 4-3 loss to Saskatchewan (Mar. 24) and a 4-3
overtime victory over Western in the gold medal final, Sunday.
The 24-year-old psychology senior scored five points, including
three goals, in three contests and was twice named as McGill's
player of the game. Prior to enrolling at McGill, he attended
College de Chicoutimi while playing junior hockey with the
Chicoutimi Sagueneens.
He will receive a gift certificate from Ye Olde Orchard Pub.
