MONTREAL -- Logan Aronhalt of Zanesville, Ohio, scored 21 points as the University of Albany Great Danes cruised to an 83-58 victory over McGill in men's preseason college basketball at Love Competition Hall, Saturday.

Sophomore point-guard Simon Bibeau of St. Bruno, Que., paced the Redmen with 16 points, on 7-for-16 shooting. He went 2-for-6 from three-point range but didn't get to the foul-line even once.

"Bibeau's learning a new position this year and he's got to learn to give the ball up a little, make better decisions," said McGill head coach Dave DeAveiro. "But the one thing he does consistently well is shoot the ball and score."

Sophomore Cody Mazza-Anthony, a 6-foot-6 forward from Hamilton, Ont., added 11 points for the Redmen, connecting on 4-of-13 attempts from the field and going 3-for-7 from the line. He matched teammate Karim Sy-Morissette, a second-year forward from Montreal with a game-high nine rebounds.

Albany led 24-12 after the opening quarter, 38-30 at the half and 61-40 after three stanzas. The Danes shot a sizzling 46.7.1 per cent from the floor, 30.0 from the arc and 77.8 from the line, compared to McGill, which shot 37.1, 37.5 and 50.0, respectively.

McGill had a surprising 35-28 edge in rebounding but coughed up the ball 28 times compared to 16 by Albany. The Redmen got to the foul-line only a dozen times, while Albany made 27 trips to the charity line and came away with 21 points.

"We're struggling right now with turning the ball over," said DeAveiro. "We played fairly well defensively," said DeAveiro. "But we've got to stop turning over the ball because that cancels our chance to score and usually leads to easy baskets for the other side. The turnovers have resulted from a lot of quick decision-making and leaving our feet to pass the ball.

"You know what," he added. "Albany's a pretty good team. They have five guys who can rebound the ball and they're extremely athletic and quick. They've been drilled to leak out, then just run and go. If you don't face a style like that in practice, then you're going to get caught."

Gerado Suero, a native of the Dominican Republic, added 10 points for UAlbany, which improved to 2-0 on their five-game, seven-day tour of eastern Canada, including an 86-57 win over UQAM, Friday.

"I thought we were very sluggish and I was impressed with McGill," said Will Brown, in his 10th season as head coach at Albany. "They were well-coached and did some things that bothered us, they switched a lot. And it took us a while to get used to that. I think our guys spent too much time on those (Bixi) bikes that you can rent riding around Montreal. But we were much better in the second half."

The Great Danes will play a Dawson College all-star team on Monday, before closing out their trip with games at Ottawa (Aug. 24) and Carleton (Aug. 25).

McGill dropped to 0-4 in exhibition play, all against NCAA Div. 1 squads, and will host the University of New Hampshire at the Currie gym on Aug. 24.

REDMEN RAP: DeAveiro shuffled his lineup somewhat from the same group that played all three games last week and promised more changes for the next game. Freshmen Derek Sing, Ave Bross and Phil Jevtovic dressed for the first time, while sophomore Shawn Bowen was scratched from last week's dress roster, along with freshmen Tom Barbeau, Jr., and Rodrigo Imperador... Others yet to dress include sophomore Gordon Duffley, plus freshmen Jonathan Ariauskas and Aleksandar Mitrovic.
