Daoust, Dufort named McGill - Old Orchard Athletes of the Week

MONTREAL - Mélodie Daoust of Valleyfield, Que., and Vincent Dufort of Smiths Falls, Ont., are the McGill University - Ye Olde Orchard athletes of the week, for the period ending Jan. 29, 2012.

 

Daoust, a 5-foot-6 centre with the women's hockey team, scored eight points, including two goals in a pair of McGill victories last week. The 20-year-old physical education freshmen assisted on five goals in a 10-0 win at Carleton last Saturday as McGill avenged a loss to the Ravens from the previous week. She also scored twice and added an assist in a 7-1 home-ice victory over Ottawa, Friday. A former member of the Canadian national under-20 program, she attended Collège Edouard-Montpetit before enrolling at McGill last semester.

 

Dufort, a 6-foot-4, 190-pound rookie point-guard with the men's basketball squad, scored 30 points and pulled down 13 rebounds as McGill swept a pair of victories over UQAM (71-61) and No.8-ranked Concordia (73-67) last week. A 19-year-old physical education freshman, he shot 50 per cent from the floor (10-for-20), including a 5-for-9 effort from three-point range, and connected on 71.4 per cent of his attempts from the free-throw line (5-for-7). Prior to enrolling at McGill, he played for Smiths Falls high school.

 

Both athletes will receive a gift certificate from Ye Olde Orchard Pub.
