Student Colloquium on Health and Law

Saturday, February 7, 2009
McIntyre Medical Building 3655 promenade Sir William Osler, Montreal, QC, H3G 1Y6, CA

There are many people who say that they study “health”.  However, many of these people, whose work spans a large number of faculties and departments, often work in isolation from one another.  The Colloquium seeks to bridge these divisions by bringing together students and professors from across McGill.

This event will feature some of McGill’s most dynamic and interesting speakers, including Professors Desmond Manderson, Margaret Somerville and Alana Klein from the Faculty of Law, as well as Dr. Philippe Couillard, the former Minister of Health and Social Services and newly appointed Senior Fellow in Health Law. The Colloquium will also feature presentations of student research and moderated student discussions.

Other speakers will include:

  • Dr. Vania Jimenez - Department of Family Medicine
  • Dr. Laurence Kirmayer - James McGill Professor and Director, Division of Social and Transcultural Psychiatry, Department of Psychiatry
  • Dr. Karl Moore - Associate Director Advanced Leadership Program, Associate Professor Dept of Neurology & Neurosurgery, Module Director IMPM, Associate Professor (Strategy and Organization)
  • Dr. Amélie Quesnel-Vallée - Assistant Professor (Joint Position with Epidemiology, Biostatistics and Occupational Health, Faculty of Medicine)
  • Dr. Arthur Porter - Executive Director of the MUHC
  • Dr. Wendy Thomson - Director, School of Social Work
