A Global perspectives on disability, human rights and accessing justice seminar, organized by the Centre for Human Rights and Legal Pluralism. Education is one of the chief interests of families, of religious communities, and of society and the state; it is both a field of cooperation between private and public bodies and, by nature, a primary cultural and political battleground. It has long been a legal battleground as well, particularly where religious issues arise.

The Stikeman Chair in Tax Law is holding its fourth annual Tax Policy Colloquium as part of its PUB2 515 Tax Policy class. The Colloquium features distinguished visiting academics and offers a forum for students, professors, and local practitioners to discuss issues of tax policy and theory, along with related issues of economics and social justice. Members of the public are welcome (please note that the colloquium takes place in a classroom setting).

The Annie MacDonald Langstaff Workshop Series presents Dr. Dolores Chew, Research Associate and Teacher, Simone de Beauvoir Women's Institute, Concordia University and Marianopolis College. This year, the 2013 Annual Workshop on Commercial & Consumer Law will be taking place at McGill's Faculty of Law. Established by Professor Emeritus Jacob Ziegel (U. Toronto), this long-running Workshop is the only academic business law conference regularly held in Canada. It is designed to keep legal scholars abreast of current developments in the commercial and consumer law areas.

This year, the Macnaughton Lectures welcome Maina Kiai, UN Special Rapporteur on the Rights to Freedom of Peaceful Assembly and Association, who will speak on democracy, dissent and the law inside civil society. Ms Pearl Eliadis will act as moderator. About the speaker Mr. Maina Kiai is the United Nations Special Rapporteur on the rights to freedom of peaceful assembly and of association. He took up his functions on 1 May 2011, for an initial period of three years.

This university year, the Center for Human Rights and Legal Pluralism is hosting the Speaker Series on Economic Justice. This series aims to foster critical reflections and facilitate interdisciplinary conversations amongst scholars interested in/working on issues related to economic justice.
