Monday, October 19, 2009 17:30
Chancellor Day Hall 3644 rue Peel, Montreal, QC, H3A 1W9, CA

Attention animal lovers! Please join McGill's Student Animal Legal Defense Fund (SALDF) for a presentation by Alanna Devine on the challenges of applying Animal Welfare Laws in Quebec.

Ms. Devine received her B.C.L./LL.B. from McGill in 2006 and has recently been appointed acting executive director of the Montreal Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (SPCA).

Ms. Devine will address the problems associated with using, for example, the Criminal Code, the Animal Health Protection Act and several municipal by-laws in protecting animals from acts of cruelty. She will also speak on how she obtained a career in animal law and discuss alternatives to what people usually think of as animal law jobs.

Alana Devine was also featured in the Faculty of Law last alumni magazine.  To download a copy, see www.mcgill.ca/law/alumni.
