The Neuro Palliative Interdisciplinary Rounds will feature a three part series, presented by Jane Chambers-Evans, Nursing Practice Consultant, MUHC Clinical Ethicist, Associate Professor, School of Nursing, McGill University, which focuses on the topic of ‘Working with Angry Families’.

The first part of the series will take place on Monday, February 27, 2012.  Jane Chambers-Evans will lead you through the complex process of ‘Anger Dissected’.  What is it? How is it manifested? How do we assess the situation, the family and our own emotions in a proactive/preventative approach. We will look at its impact on the family, the staff and the relationship between the two.  To confirm your attendance to this lecture, please rsvp to debbie.rashcovsky [at] mcgill.ca or 514-398-6047 by February 14, 2012.

The second part of the series to take place on Monday, March 26, 2012 will deal with ‘Building interventions that will preserve our relationships’.  The talk will begin with a brief re-cap of series #1 and continue to focus on interventions and planning in the face of an angry family.  Jane Chambers-Evans will give concrete tools to help us keep the compassion in our care when faced with anger and help us to identify limits that cannot be breached.  Rsvp by March 12, 2012 to attend the second part in the ‘Working with Angry Families’ series at debbie.rashcovsky [at] mcgill.ca or 514-398-6047.

Our third and the last part of this series which takes place on Monday, April 30, 2012 will give us the necessary tools to ‘Strengthen our practice in tough situations’.  This session will begin with a re-cap of series #1 & #2 followed by a short lecture which will help us ‘Identify resources in the system and how to access them’.  A specific case will be presented, then group breakout sessions will allow attendees the opportunity for small group work and open discussion.  An audience wide question & answer period will follow where you may bring your own cases which you may present and have discussed in an open facilitated discussion format.  Send your cases to debbie.rashcovsky [at] mcgill.ca in advance or bring them the day of.  Rsvp for this session is required by April 17, 2012.

The three part series, ‘Working with Angry Families’ will take place in the Jeanne Timmins Amphitheatre of the Neuro (3081 University Street) and begin promptly at 12:00 noon.  A light lunch will be offered.
