Physics and Chemistry

Overview

Physics aims to understand how the universe functions, through the study of energy and matter in time and space. Chemistry seeks to identify the substances of which matter is composed, their properties and how they interact to form new substances.

The Physics and Chemistry joint program is a challenging specialized Honours program intended primarily, although not exclusively, for students who are looking to focus on theoretical approaches to the sciences. You may be interested in this program if you plan to work in fields of study at the crossroads of physical chemistry and physics. This program will prepare you for either theoretical or experimental graduate work in departments where there is an emphasis on cross-disciplinary areas like matter physics, chemical physics, or material science.

Careers

Physics is a very broad discipline, meaning that you will have a diverse range of career opportunities after graduation. Your research and laboratory skills and experience will be valuable in many areas. You can also choose to pursue graduate studies and work in research in a more specialized field.

Depending on your interests and experience, you could become a professional:

  • Stratigrapher
  • Systems Analyst
  • Laboratory Technician
  • Forensic Laboratory Technician

Possible minors

Minors are a great way to customize your academic experience. Many students use minors to pursue interests outside their major, while others choose minors to complement their degree.
