With the removal of the global travel advisory, McGill will now be able to return to pre-pandemic travel conditions, allowing for freer movement of students, faculty and staff.

New requirements for travel to/from Canada

Rules for entering and flying out of/within Canada (both by flight and land border), COVID-19 testing, vaccination & quarantine requirements are frequently being updated by the Canadian Government.

Airline Policies COVID-19

 Please click on the links below to see the most up to date and detailed airline policies. This information is also likely to change depending on rapidly-evolving circumstances.

Prior to Departure

  1. Register the trip through the University Travel Registration Form for Faculty and Staff
  2. Check the Government of Canada Country Travel Advisories for the latest status of the destination
  3. If these travel warnings are in effect: “avoid non-essential travel or avoid all travel”, the Traveler is required to: (i) consult with Human Resources to assess impact on the Traveler’s emergency medical insurance coverage and (ii) to sign a PDF icon Notice of Warning that the University is not requiring the Traveler to go to that destination and is in fact recommending that travel is cancelled or postponed
  4. Ensure that all travel documents including passport, visa and immunizations are up-to-date
  5. Register with the Canadian Embassy (or your embassy) at the destination
  6. Have all the necessary information in case of a medical emergency while away
  7. Download the Government of Canada Travel Smart web app for easy access to valuable information
  8. Provide a detailed travel itinerary and updates to the Traveler’s supervisor
  9. Upon return prepare the Expense Report for the entire trip according to the University’s Reimbursement of Expense Policy
  10. Take a picture on your cell phone of the Travel Emergency Guide

University Travel Registration Form for Faculty and Staff

It is imperative that you register your travel information using the on-line University Travel Registration form for Faculty and Staff. If you are not already logged in, you will be required to log-in for access.

The Government of Canada provides essential information on travel health risks and preventive measures to keep you safe during your travels. It is important to review the Travel website of Canada each time before you book your travels. Under Travel Health Notices the Public Health Agency of Canada outline potential health risks to Canadian travelers and recommend ways to help reduce them.
