Parking fees Fall 2021

With the planned return to campus of students, faculty and staff and the resumption of a significant portion of activities by the start of the Fall semester, the University will resume charging regular parking fees effective Sunday, August 29, 2021. Users will have the option to purchase daily parking passes or permits. Until August 28, 2021 inclusive, parking fees will be at 50% of the usual rates, for McGill staff, faculty and students.

Day passes

Day passes can be pre-purchased at the rate of $10.00 per pass OR $42.50 for a pack of 5 passes. These passes have scratch boxes for the month, day, and year as well as a location indicated. A pass is valid for one day’s use (the correct date must be scratched) and should be destroyed after usage. It is also valid for parking in a specific location only, with alternate location(s) provided in the event that a parking area reaches capacity.

The only location currently available for new applicants, including those who had permits prior to the campus shutdown, is the McGill Sports Complex/Stadium/Upper Residences lots, unless the employee has a mobility issue that requires proximity parking.

A user may not purchase more than 10 day passes within a 3 week period.

Please view the section on Locations and rates.

A pre-purchased day pass is not required for parking at the McGill Sports Complex/Molson Stadium and Upper Residences lots (accessed just north of 3801 University (The Neuro)), where there is a parking attendant who can accept payment and issue a daily ticket to be displayed on the dashboard. To obtain the reduced daily rate of $10.00, you must show a valid McGill ID card to the parking attendant at the booth by the entrance (between 3801 University and 3851 University). Payment can be made to the agent using cash, debit or credit card.

The pay and display machines in the FDA (Engineering) Courtyard and the Drummond lot will continue to charge the full rates (ex. $20.00 daily maximum). For users wishing to park in these locations at the reduced rate, day passes must be purchased in advance. Unfortunately, these locations are presently at capacity and day passes cannot be purchased.

The process to purchase day passes is detailed in the How to purchase a parking permit or prepaid day passes section.

Weekly or monthly permits

Parking permits can be purchased by calendar month or by week. If a permit is purchased in July or August of 2021 whereby the end date exceeds August 31, 2021, the regular rate fees will be applied to the portion of the permit that extends past August 31, 2021. The fee will depend on the location allocated. The only location currently available for new applicants, including those who had permits prior to the campus shutdown, is the McGill Sports Complex/Stadium/Upper Residences lots, unless the employee has a mobility issue that requires proximity parking.

Users who wish to purchase a parking permit for a minimum of 4 months and who are eligible for a payroll deduction (available only to permanent staff members) may pay for parking at the annual (payroll deduction) rate. The only locations currently available for new applicants, including those who had permits prior to the campus shutdown, is the McGill Sports Complex/Stadium/Upper Residences lots or the McIntyre garage, unless the employee has a mobility issue that requires proximity parking. Please note the regular rates will be applied to payroll deductions in September 2021 unless the user arranges to cancel their parking permit for the end of August 2021. Parking cannot be cancelled retroactively.

The process to purchase weekly or monthly permits is detailed in the How to purchase a parking permit or prepaid day passes section.

Employees with mobility issues

Employees who have a government-issued permit for parking in spaces designated for persons with disabilities should submit a photo or scan of the registration paper that accompanies their government-issued permit when applying for a parking permit or day passes.

Employees who do not have a government-issued permit for parking in spaces designated for persons with disabilities but who have a medical reason requiring proximity parking will need to apply for a proximity parking authorization through Human Resources (HR). For more information, please visit the Human Resources Benefits website. It is strongly recommended that this is done as soon as possible as a proximity parking permit will not be issued unless HR approves the request and advises the Parking Office.

Please note that space is limited and locations are subject to availability. At the present time, there is only availability for the McGill Sports Complex/Stadium/Upper Residences lots and the McIntyre garage. The rates below apply only for permits valid until the end of August 2021 or earlier.

  • Rate (with McGill's current 50% discount applied): $38.88 per pay every two weeks.
  • Pedestrian access: The pedestrian exit doors in the garage to Stewart Biology (level 3), the Faculty of Law (levels 5 and 7) and the elevator to the Life Sciences Complex will not be accessible due to restricted building access.
