DESCRIPTION:TRANSPORTATION AND URBAN SUSTAINABILITY The Ghosts of Affordabl
e Housing: Access and Health Join us for this free talk given by Debbie N
iemeier\, Professor at University of California\, Davis. Our future prosp
erity depends not only on a sustainable material economy\, but also on a s
ustainable social economy. As populations increasingly urbanize\, access t
o affordable housing -- and its urban landscape assets -- becomes a critic
al marker of equity\, and an indicator of a socially just and sustainable
society. This talk uses the rise and fall of affordable housing in San Fra
ncisco to explore what happens when dubious infrastructure decisions coupl
ed with a lack of government transparency are confronted with sudden econo
mic growth. A workshop hosted by Marianne Hatzopoulou\, Assistant Profess
or in Transportation Engineering at the Department of Civil Engineering an
d Applied Mechanics\, McGill University. Offered in partnership with the T
rottier Institute for Sustainability in Engineering and Design (TISED). F
ree\, open to the public\, no registration required
