This spring Montreal received the thrilling news that our city will host one of the five global hubs of the new Secretariat of the Future Earth. McGill University collaborated with Montreal-based colleagues across sectors and international climate change leaders to develop this innovative governance structure.

Please join Professor Andrew Gonzalez, member of the global transition team establishing the Future Earth’s secretariat, to find out more about:

  • Future Earth
  • potential implications for Quebec-based, Canadian and global sustainability research
  • the distributed Secretariat model (with global/regional hubs and nodes)
  • the partnerships involved
  • the financial model
  • the implementation timeline

Future Earth is a new 10-year international research initiative that will develop the knowledge for responding effectively to the risks and opportunities of global environmental change and for supporting transformation towards global sustainability in the coming decades. Future Earth will mobilize thousands of researchers across disciplines while strengthening partnerships with policy-makers and other stakeholders to provide sustainability options and solutions in the wake of Rio+20.
