Faculty development workshop

Faculty Development

Message from the Associate Chair of Academic Affairs, Dr. Kevin Lachapelle

We are excited to introduce Faculty Development as part of the core mandate of the Department of Surgery. The mission is to ensure that all Faculty members of the Department of Surgery reach their academic and professional potential. By supporting Faculty in their respective roles as Surgeon Educators, Surgeon Clinicians, Surgeon Scientists, or Scientists , the Department hopes to provide a pathway for success at each stage of one’s career.

We have onboarding and mentorship committees that we believe are essential in helping new recruits succeed in building a fulfilling career in the Department. Additionally, the Tomlinson Award provides start-up funds to help our new recruits in their academic activities. The Department also has a grant writing workshop given by Dr. Barralet and Dr. Mwale.

Recently, we co-developed a Leadership Program for Surgeons with Desautel Management.
The Surgery Leadership program to provide the essential leadership skills for all members of the Department and are now preparing a course for Surgeons as Teachers.

We understand the unique reality of the Surgeon. The call of the operating room with all its responsibilities and consuming work and the call of academia to make an important contribution. Our role is to help you navigate these challenges while fostering a life balance.

Kevin Lachapelle, M.D.
