POLI 660 Fieldwork: Challenges and Strategies (3 credits)

Overview

Political Science : This course provides an examination of the theoretical questions regarding the epistemology and ontology in fieldwork-based research, debates about research ethics, and discussions about what constitutes “the field.” The aim is to give students the critical tools that are necessary to prepare them to conduct different types of field research, which can include participant-observation, nterviewing, and archival research. The course will also engage with critical perspectives on issues such as positionality, reflexivity, transparency, representation, and embodiment.
