 SCE Subcommittee on Queer People\, the Office of the Associate Provost for
  Equity and Academic Policies\, the Office of the Dean of Students and the
  Social Equity and Diversity Education Office (SEDE) is hosting McGill Uni
 versity's first lavender graduation celebration event titled the Launch of
  the Rainbow event.\n\nThe Launch of the Rainbow will honour the achieveme
 nts and contributions of McGill University’s Lesbian\, Gay\, Bisexual\, Tr
 ans\, Queer\, Intersex\, Pansexual\, Questioning\, Two-Spirit\, Non-Binary
  and Asexual students.\n\nConcept\n\nThe concept of an LGBTQ+ graduation\,
  Lavender Graduation or Rainbow Graduation was implemented in 1995 by the 
 then director of the University of Michigan's LGBT Campus Resource Center\
 , Dr. Ronni Sanlo. The Human Rights Campaign maintains a list of 166 unive
 rsities in the United States of America that offer a Lavender Graduation t
 o its LGBTQ+ students.\n\nGuiding Principle\n\nRecognizing the importance 
 of intersectionality\, the Subcommittee on Queer People is committed to an
  organizing process and event that foregrounds the voices and experiences 
 of LGBTQ+ people who are most marginalized\, both in society and within LG
 BTQ+ communities\, including LGBTQ+ people who are racialized\, indigenous
 \, black\, trans\, women\, non-binary\, and persons with disabilities.\n\n
 Why is this important?\n\nCelebrate the achievements of graduating LGBTQ+ 
 students\n\nEmpower historically marginalized populations\n\nReinforce the
  idea of community at McGill before leaving McGill\n\nHighlight the work t
 hat Academics and Staff that have contributed to the support and advanceme
 nt of the LGBTQ+ community on and beyond campus\n\nHighlight research cond
 ucted at McGill on LGBTQ+ topics and issues\n\nRaise awareness to LGBTQ+ i
 ssues on campus or in the greater community\n\nWho should attend?\n\nAll L
 GBTQ+ graduating undergraduate\, graduate and School of Continuing Studies
  students are welcome to attend this event with friends and families.\n\nL
 GBTQ+ academics and staff\n\nAlly professors\, librarians\, university adm
 inistrators\, university staff\, and ally students to attend and show thei
 r support for students they have supported and worked with as they begin n
 ew chapters in their lives.\n
