About Harf
Harf is a student-led journal of South Asian Studies based at McGill University in Tiohtià:ke (Montreal), Canada. Last year marked the first full-length revival of the journal since its COVID-era hiatus, and since then, we’ve continued to build a platform for the diverse voices, disciplines, and creative practices that shape South Asian thought. In recent years, Harf has published authors from across the subcontinent as well as the United States, the United Kingdom, and Canada, reflecting the transnational nature of South Asian studies today.
We publish a wide range of submissions from students and professors alike, welcoming work that engages with the anthropology, history, literature, and religions of South Asia. In recent years, we have expanded beyond traditional academic essays to incorporate poetry, translations, and artwork, highlighting the multiplicity of forms through which South Asian experiences and imaginations are expressed. Harf invites submissions of academic and artistic work that illuminate communities, practices, concepts, and voices across the region and its diasporas, celebrating its depth, diversity, and texture
