Biographical Notes

Professor Emeritus. PhD, Johns Hopkins University, 1967; MA (Law), Université de Montréal,1955; LL.L, Université de Montréal,1954; BA, Université de Montréal, 1951. Ajoined the Department of Sociology at McGill in 1963. Taught in sociology at Université de Montréal in 1959-60. Associated with The Social Research Group in Montreal from 1957 to 1965. Fellow of the Royal Socirty of Canada. Currently his academic interests focus mainly on motivational problems in various forms of contentious collective action and on comparative ethnic politics, and the emergence and development of the Quebec independence movement, from its inception around 1960 to the present.
