SIS Faculty member received 2016 SSHRC Insight Development Grant

Dr. Catherine Guastavino, Associate Professor and William Dawson Scholar, has received a 2016 SSHRC Insight Development Grant in collaboration with Ville de Montreal and Dumoulin Acoustics. Doctoral student Daniel Steele from the Multimodal Interaction Lab takes a leading role in the project. Visit sounds-in-the-city.org for more information.

Prof. Benjamin Fung of the School of Information Studies receives the Service Award from the IEEE 2016 International Conference on Data Science and Advanced Analytics (DSAA’2016)

On October 18, 2016, as a Local Arrangement Chair, prof. Fung received the Service Award from the IEEE 2016 International Conference on Data Science and Advanced Analytics (DSAA’2016). The award comes with free registrations for the conference in the next three years.

Prof. Fung would like to congratulate his PhD students at SIS who served as volunteers at the conference, he shares this honour with them.

Dr. Benjamin Fung of the School of Information Studies appointed Canada Research Chair in Data Mining for Cybersecurity

McGill University School of Information Studies faculty member Dr. Benjamin Fung has been awarded a Canada Research Chair (CRC Tier 2) in Data Mining for Cybersecurity. Dr. Fung's research program aims to enhance the data sharing and data mining capabilities for healthcare and cyber security professionals.

SIS Welcomes 2 students as part of the Indigenous Student Librarian program.

The School of Information Studies is happy to announce 2 students Chloe Belair-Morin and Sarah Monnier as part of the Indigenous Student Librarian program. This programs offers a tuition waiver to an Indigenous student as well as part time employment as a student librarian or archivist at Concordia Library.

Congratulations to Prof. Benjamin Fung who has been appointed Associate Editor in IEEE Transactions of Knowledge and Data Engineering (TKDE) for a 2-year term from May 2019. IEEE TKDE is a top research venue in the area of data mining

SIS PhD student Fei Shu awarded FRQSC Doctoral Fellowship for research on bibliometric database comparison

Congratulations to McGill School of Information Studies PhD student Fei Shu on receiving a FRQSC Doctoral Fellowship.

Fei’s research investigates the difference between Web of Science and local Chinese bibliometric databases and contributes to understanding of whether international bibliometric databases can be used to evaluate national research performance.

SIS PhD student Fei Shu wins iFellowship award for national-scale digital research in Chinese bibliometrics

The McGill School of Information Studies congratulates PhD in Information Studies student Fei Shu, recently selected for the iFellows Doctoral Fellowship program. Fei's thesis proposal was selected from a pool of applicants from 65 iSchools across the world. As an iFellow, Fei will receive a stipend of $50,000 USD over two years to pursue independent dissertation research that supports the goals of the Coherence at Scale Program.
