McGill World Restart a Heart Day 2019

The Pitch
On October 16, 2019, McGill Faculty of Medicine students are rallying together to participate in World Restart a Heart Day, a global initiative that aims to increase public awareness of bystander Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR).

The Highlights
Your gift will:

  • Educate the community about the importance of bystander CPR.
  • Engage individuals in resuscitation activities to enhance CPR knowledge and skills.
  • Increase the rate and quality of bystander CPR, ultimately reducing the number of cardiac arrest deaths in Greater Montreal.

The Story
More than 35,000 people die of sudden cardiac arrest each year in Canada. The large majority occur in homes and public places and are witnessed by family members, co-workers or friends. Responding to a cardiac arrest by administering CPR can triple the odds of survival and recovery.

McGill students are rallying together to take part in World Restart a Heart Day on October 16, 2019 by launching a Montreal-based public awareness campaign. A core team of trained McGill students from the Steinberg Simulation Centre Interprofessional Learners’ Committee (SILC) will engage with the McGill community on campus and in classrooms to raise awareness and provide basic CPR training. Information booths will be set up at affiliated hospital sites to distribute information and encourage engagement with the general public, providing citizens with an opportunity to learn basic CPR skills and practice on simulated mannequins. The campaign will include a strong social media component and media outreach.

Your gift will be used to support this initiative through communication tools including videos, posters, postcards and promotional materials.
