Project title: Generation of mouse fluorescent reporter lines using CRISPR/Cas9 mediated genome engineering

Project description (50-100 words suggested): The CRISPR/Cas-mediated genome engineering in mouse embryos. Generation of mouse animal models for human diseases is important for current medical research. However, it is costly and time consuming to generate and maintain mouse lines. CRISPR/Cas-mediated genome engineering is a novel genome editing technique to modify mouse and human genomes.  The potential of this technique to accelerate generation of animal models has recognized recently.  We are introducing this technique in the lab and examining optimal conditions for various genome modifications in the mouse embryo.

Prerequisite: 1 term completed at McGill + CGPA of 3.0 or higher; or permission of instructor.

Grading scheme (The final report must be worth at least 50% of final grade): Final grade shall be based on an evaluation of laboratory (or equivalent) performance (40%), a final written report (50%), and an oral presentation (10%) by the supervisor. Details of the evaluation scheme will be provided by HGEN to supervisors and applicants.
