Project title: Defining the VPS-34 complex that regulates TBC-2

Project description (50-100 words suggested): TBC-2 is a RAB-5 GTPase Activating Protein and hence an important regulator of endosome maturation. TBC-2 is recruited to endosome membranes in a VPS-34 dependent manner. VPS-34 can function in several different protein complexes. The aim of this study is to identify which complex components contribute to TBC-2 membrane recruitment. The student will use RNA-mediated interference and C. elegans genetics to test candidate genes for roles in TBC-2 recruitment. In addition to learning techniques in C. elegans culture and genetics, the student will use epifluorescence microscopy to analysis the subcellular localization of TBC-2 and other endosomal proteins.

Prerequisite: 1 term completed at McGill + CGPA of 3.0 or higher; or permission of instructor.

Grading scheme (The final report must be worth at least 50% of final grade): Final grade shall be based on an evaluation of laboratory performance (40%), a final written report of 10 pages double spaced (50%), and an oral presentation (10%) at a lab meeting.
