Project title: Comparison of meiosis segregation pattern in preimplantation embryos obtained from male and female translocation carriers

Project description (50-100 words suggested): Balanced translocation carriers are known to be at risk of reproductive difficulties. Preimplantation genetic diagnosis (PGD), by selecting chromosomally normal or balanced embryos before implantation, is one of the options for them to have a healthy offspring. In addition, PGD also provides a unique opportunity to analyze chromosome segregation patterns of preimplantation embryos from translocation carriers. The objective of this project is to investigate meiosis segregation pattern in preimplantation embryos obtained from male and female translocation carriers.

Prerequisite: 1 term completed at McGill + CGPA of 3.0 or higher; or permission of instructor.

Grading scheme (The final report must be worth at least 50% of final grade): Final grade shall be based on an evaluation of laboratory (or equivalent) performance (40%), a final written report (50%), and an oral presentation (10%) by the supervisor. Details of the evaluation scheme will be provided by HGEN to supervisors and applicants.
