Project title: Parathyroid Hormone-Related Peptide (PTHrP) Pelletse as Preventative Treatment for Scoliosis

Project description (50-100 words suggested): Early onset scoliosis (EOS) leads to severe three dimensional deformation of the spine in ~1/2500 children if not corrected by bracing or surgical intervention to prevent curve progression. Co-morbidities associated with the current standard of care include loss of mobility, degenerative changes in adjacent vertebra, and significant pain. The progression and resulting collateral effects of scoliosis are of primary concern to those afflicted with the condition. Therefore, treatment to diminish the progression and alleviate the severity of this condition is of great interest. This project aims to assess PTHrP(1-34) as a preventative treatment to alleviate the progression of scoliosis.

Prerequisite: 1 term completed at McGill + CGPA of 3.0 or higher; or permission of instructor.

Grading scheme (The final report must be worth at least 50% of final grade): 50% final report; 50% lab performance.
