Project title: Investigating the role of parkin in a cell culture model of Parkinson's disease
Project description (50-100 words suggested): Our laboratory is interested in the molecular mechanisms of Parkinson's disease (PD). The student will be working in the laboratory as part of the NSCI396 summer research project. The student will be introduced to molecular biology techniques including aseptic tissue culture, molecular cloning, and fluorescent microscopy. Specifically, the student will be assisting in the development and generation of novel reagents to investigate the activity of parkin using fluorescent microscopy.
Prerequisite: 1 term completed at McGill + CGPA of 3.0 or higher; or permission of instructor.
Grading scheme (The final report must be worth at least 50% of final grade): Final grade shall be based on an evaluation of laboratory performance (40%), a final written report (50%), and an oral presentation (10%) in front of the supervisor and other lab members.
