Project title: Application of complex system theories to coupled social-ecological systems

Project description:

The aim is to approach the concept of complex systems theory through the analysis of a simple ecological model. For example, one can analyze how a simple model such as the predator-prey model can be affected by outside factors such as climate change.

I would like to start with a simple example, such as how the interaction between crops and pests react to droughts. Then, I would like to develop a model of such an interaction. After running the model and analyzing the results, I will see whether we can extract a more general concept from this example on how predator-prey interactions react to outside shocks.

Prerequisite: 1 term completed at McGill + CGPA of 3.0 or higher; or permission of instructor.

Grading scheme (The final report must be worth at least 50% of final grade): Final written report paper (100%)
