Project title: Screening of new compounds for seven- or six- transmembrane μ-opioid receptors by cAMP assay


Project description (50-100 words suggested): Recently identified 6 transmembrane (TM) µ-opioid receptor (MOR) that encodes a novel functional variant may play a particularly important role in the shift in MOR signaling. This 6TM isoform mediates excitatory cellular effects rather than the classic inhibitory effects produced by the stimulation of the canonical 7TM isoform. The goal of this project will be to screen new 6 and 7TM receptor compounds identified by in silico modeling with the GloSensor cAMP-sensitive luciferase reporter assay monitoring intracellular cAMP levels.

Prerequisite: 1 term completed at McGill + CGPA of 3.0 or higher; or permission of instructor.

Grading scheme (The final report must be worth at least 50% of final grade): Written Report 50%; Presentation 10%; Laboratory performance 40%.
