Project title: Studying the regulating of regulation of translation of apoptotic factors by 4EHP

Project description (50-100 words suggested): Eukaryotic translation initiation factor 4E homologous protein is a translation factor whose absence induces apoptosis and reduces cell growth rate. To find out the mechanism underlying this phenotype, we performed a genome-wide ribosome profiling assay. We have found a number of genes that are regulated by 4EHP at the translational level, among which are some prominent pro-apoptotic markers. The purpose of this project is to firstly validate these findings. Then, we would like to figure out how 4EHP regulates these targets and, if by depletion of those targets, we can rescue the phenotype of 4EHP knockdown.

Prerequisite: 1 term completed at McGill + CGPA of 3.0 or higher; or permission of instructor.

Grading scheme (The final report must be worth at least 50% of final grade): Final grade 50% lab work and 50% final report.
