Project title: Proteomic Analysis of Trichuris suis excreted/secreted products

Project description (50-100 words suggested): Differential analysis and annotation of excreted/secreted proteins released by larval and adult stages of T. suis. This bioinformatic analysis, will create a short list of molecules that dampen the TLR-9 mediated production of IL-12 by Dendritic cells. In addition, chromatographic separation of ESP will be performed to identify bioactive/immunologically active parasite proteins.

Prerequisite: 1 term completed at McGill + CGPA of 3.0 or higher; or permission of instructor.

Grading scheme (The final report must be worth at least 50% of final grade): 25% - Comparative analysis of T. suis secretome with other helminths. 25%- Analysis of categories and potential biological/immunological role of secreted proteins. 50% - 20 page report on the work done, plus a 20 minute presentation, evaluated by Dr. Geary, Dr. Jardim and Dr. Leroux.

Project status: This project is taken.

Ethics, safety, and training: Supervisors are responsible for the ethics and safety compliance of undergraduate students. This project involves Biohazardous substances.
