The motion carried. (2) BUSINESS ARISING FROM THE MINUTES 402.1 In response to a question that had been posed at the Faculty meeting of November 10, 1998, regarding the number of students registered for second programs, Associate Dean Mendelson said that there were 233 students registered for a Minor program; nine students registered for a second Major Program; four students registered for a Major Concentration; and one student registered for a second Faculty Program. (3) ANNOUNCEMENTS There were no announcements. (4) REPORTS OF COMMITTEES a) Committee on Student Standing S-98- 19 404.1 Associate Dean Mendelson read the report of the Committee on Student Standing. b) Academic Committee S-98- 20/20A MINOR COURSE CHANGES (AC-98-33) (for information) AD HOC HONOURS IN COGNITIVE SCIENCE (AC-98-34) Prof. Marley moved, seconded by Prof. GowriSankaran, that the ad hoc Honours Program for Mr. Anand Indulah Rughani be approved. BIOLOGY Items Postponed to the Next Faculty of Science Meeting 177-208A (Course number change from 177-308B, prerequisite and course title (AC-98-51) 177-304B (Course number change from 177-204A, prerequisite and course description (AC-98-52) 404.2 Associate Dean Mendelson said that the above course changes had been approved, pending consultation with other units, at the Academic Committee Meeting of November 17, 1998. However, that consultation was still in progress. SUBSTITUTION OF COURSES IN B.SC./B.ED. PROGRAM (AC-98-45) (Originally Presented for Information) 404.3 Following some discussion concerning the above course substitutions, Dean Shaver said he was prepared to accept that the substitutions be debated, provided that the item was presented as a motion. He asked if anyone was prepared to call a motion on the issue. Prof. Farrell moved, seconded by Prof. Barrette, that the above substitutions be approved for all students in the combined B.Sc./B.Ed. Program The motion carried. EARTH & PLANETARY SCIENCES AND ANATOMY & CELL BIOLOGY S-98-20A New Course Postponed to the Next Faculty of Science Meeting 186-205A/504-205A Astrobiology (AC-98-40/AC-98-40A) 3 credits Prof. Paquette moved, seconded by Prof. Doig, that the course be adopted. 404.4 Following a discussion concerning the number of guest lecturers for an introductory-level course, Prof. Barrette moved, seconded by Prof. GowriSankaran, that the above course be tabled to the next Faculty of Science Meeting, when a representative from the Department of Anatomy and Cell Biology would be present to answer questions.
