PLACEMENT TESTS AC-02-56 (Revised 4) 407.1 Associate Dean Mendelson pointed out that MATH 130 and 131 had been added to Item #1 at the request of the Faculty of Management. 407.2 There was some discussion concerning the security of the exams for the placement tests. The original intent had been to use the May Supplemental exams for the placement tests, but it was pointed out that students could conceivably learn of this. However, since departments would now be providing placement exams, it was felt that departments could take appropriate steps to ensure that students could not know in advance the questions on the exams. 407.3 After some discussion, the second sentence in Item #6 was changed to read: 407.4 "However, students who receive exemptions in Biology, Chemistry, and Physics, shall be obliged to pass the corresponding lab course, if they did not study in a formal course that included laboratory work that meets with the relevant department's approval." Associate Dean Mendelson moved, seconded by Prof. Wechsler, the Document AC-02-56 (Revised 4), as modified above, be approved. The motion carried. 8. REGULATIONS CONCERNING FINAL EXAMINATIONS AC-02-84 408.1 Associate Dean Mendelson said that in the General University section of the Calendar, Section 5.2.1, Item #1, it was specified that regulations concerning examinations "apply to undergraduate courses up to and including the 400 level..." The proposal was that the Faculty of Science would apply the regulations up to and including the 500 level. Associate Dean Mendelson said that when the regulation was devised, there were not many 500-level courses. He said that the issue of changing "400 level" to "500 level" for the University as a whole would be raised at APPC. 408.2 During the discussion, it was brought out that any modifications to regulations for 600- and 700-level courses would have to involve the Council of Graduate and Postdoctoral Studies. Associate Dean Mendelson moved, seconded by Prof. Wecshler, that for the Faculty of Science, courses up to and including the 500-level would be covered by the University regulations for final examinations (Section 5.2.1). The motion carried. 9. OTHER BUSINESS - COMPUTER SCIENCE - B.Sc. Minor Program in Computer Science AC-02-85 Prof. Panangaden moved, seconded by Prof. Drury, that the changes be approved.
