Many exams in the upcoming examination session will require you to be able to construct your script with exam answers as a document for upload: here are some suggestions on how to do that effectively.

NB: You should prepare by downloading apps BEFORE the exam starts as you may not be allowed to access material during the exam.
- Use a word processing software:
- Microsoft Word is available free for McGill students as part of the Office 365 suite: see here
- For many scientific disciplines, Latex is a useful text processing software
- Compile document, convert to pdf.
- For figures and diagrams:
- BioRender (restricted version free for Educational use)
- Computational software: matlab, python, R
- Dia
- GIMP
- Inkscape
- Microsoft Powerpoint
- Digitize handwritten work using tablet and stylus:
- Microsoft OneNote part of the Office 365 suite: see here
- iOS: Free versions (with restricted functionality) of pay apps include Notability and Goodnotes
- Xodo
- Scan/photograph handwritten work using phone camera: third-party apps include
- Adobe Scan
- CamScanner (free version allows unlimited scanning with watermark)
- Microsoft Lens
- For pdf form completion and editing, use pdf editing apps:
- Adobe Reader
- PDF-XChange Editor
- Smallpdf
- Xodo
