spread of infectious disease as a human problem\, but the origin of many
human epidemics and pandemics have their beginnings in animal sources. Her
e I would like to present my experiences with a few of the viral diseases
I have worked with over the years with emphasis of animal origins. With re
search teams in Asia\, Africa and the Mediterranean\, my field work in urb
an and rural areas shows that the evolving nature of epidemics are a compl
ex mixture of virus\, culture\, attitudes\, government involvement and hyg
iene. With careful planning I believe we will be able to control pandemics
  in the next millennium.\n
