As the new president of RUIS McGill, and as 2019 gets underway, I am proud and honoured to share some of the many accomplishments, challenges and learning experiences that were highlights for us in 2018.
Working with the Minister and our regional partners, RUIS McGill continued to launch new programs while moving forward with those already underway:
The RUIS McGill Directors of Professional Services (DPS) launched the Community of Practice – Clinical Pertinence in 2018 to promote and implement constructive initiatives by pooling experience, know-how and knowledge.
The RUIS McGill Indigenous Affairs Committee was established in 2018 to develop projects and make recommendations that foster cultural safety within services offered to Indigenous users of RUIS organizations.
A project that applied evidence-based care was put in place to evaluate and improve mental health care within the RUIS McGill network.
To ensure that those suffering from chronic pain have equitable and timely access to adequate resources, the Centre of Expertise in Chronic Pain (CECP) continued to focus on coordinating the development and ongoing effectiveness of the continuum of care within RUIS McGill. As well as providing clinical expertise, the Centre dedicates a great deal of time and effort to promoting education about pain and the importance of the transfer of knowledge between interdisciplinary teams and the wider community.
The Centre of Excellence on Longevity continues to improve seniors’ health and quality of life by involving them in their own health and taking an active role in their environment.
Telehealth, which is recognized as a means of organizing services and providing training, continues to serve RUIS McGill organizations while fulfilling other MSSS mandates.
These initiatives, among many others, contribute to improving essential services in our communities, furthering the mission of RUIS McGill throughout a territory that covers 63% of Quebec.
As 2019 unfolds, I look forward to visiting the RUIS McGill regions and to collaborating with our partners with a common objective to focusing and coordinating our efforts for the betterment of healthcare for the populations we serve.
