Bidding on Contracts

Preparing a bid document varies considerably from submitting a grant, and the requirements (signatures, budgets, schedules, etc.) can be substantial.

When bidding on a research or service contract, it is important to ensure that you are working closely with an OSR officer to help you navigate the process. Below are other important points to keep in mind.

  • "Price" your work instead of "costing" it (see Budgeting a contract on the Budgets page for more details).
  • While companies and universities often compete for the same funding, universities need to take into account students, publications, confidentiality terms, etc.
  • Requests for proposals (RFPs) often include agreement to the terms and conditions of the research contract as part of the bidding process.
  • Only an OSR officer’s signature on a proposal constitutes a valid signature on behalf of the University.

Please contact OSR as soon as you intend to submit a bid.
