The Innovation Fund (IF) provides investments in infrastructure, across the full spectrum of research, from the most fundamental to applied through to technology development. The IF supports initiatives that allow institutions and their researchers to build on and enhance emerging strategic priority areas, accelerate current research and technology development, and take established capabilities to a globally competitive level.
The objectives of the Innovation Fund are to:
- Enable global leadership by supporting world–class research or technology development.
- Enhance and optimize the capacity of institutions and research communities to conduct the proposed research or technology development program(s).
- Lead to social, health, environmental and/or economic benefits for Canadians.
Starting in 2019, Canada Foundation for Innovation (CFI) established model of permanent funding which allows to provide Innovation Fund competitions at regular intervals of 24 to 30 months until 2026.
There will be a maximum amount (envelope) of CFI funding for which McGill may apply and an internal selection process will be used to determine the projects that will be submitted to CFI. The McGill’s envelope will be known when the CFI issues its draft Call for Proposals.
