DESCRIPTION:The Office of Sponsored Research is pleased to invite McGill re
searchers and administrators to an information session on the upcoming SSH
RC Insight Development Grants competition.\n\nThe information session will
include:\n\n·       A brief presentation about the requirements of the In
sight Development Grants (IDG) by the Office of Sponsored Research\;\n\n·
Presentations from Prof. Ahmed El-Geneidy (School of Urban Planning)
and Prof. Robert Whitley (Department of Psychiatry)\, who will share thei
r insights and experiences as peer reviewers and successful awardees\;\n\n
 ·       A question and answer period. \n\n \n\nPlease RSVP online by Frida
 y\, November 3rd\, 2017 at 12:00 P.M. \n\n \n\nBackground:\n\nInsight Deve
lopment Grants support research in its initial stages for up to two years
(with an automatic extension period for one year) for emerging and establi
shed scholars in the social sciences and humanities. The grants enable the
development of new research questions\, as well as experimentation with n
ew methods\, theoretical approaches and/or ideas. The maximum value of an
Insight Development Grant is $75\,000. For the current competition\, at le
ast 50% of funds will be reserved for applications from emerging scholars.
\n\n \n\nNormally researchers may not apply\, as applicant\, for an Insigh
t Grant and an Insight Development Grant within the same calendar year. Ho
wever\, given the launch of the smaller Insight Grants stream in 2017\, re
searchers who applied unsuccessfully for an Insight Development Grant in F
ebruary 2017 may exceptionally apply for an Insight Grant in October 2017.
However\, the proposed IG project must have different research objectives
than the IDG project.\n\nPlease note that the application form for the cu
rrent competition is not yet available\, but will be posted on the SSHRC w
ebsite in the coming weeks.\n\n \n\nFor more information\, please contact
 Jennifer Callaghan (jennifer.callaghan [at] mcgill.ca).\n
