DESCRIPTION:Invitation: McGill Office of Sponsored Research & Graduate Post
doctoral Studies \nOutreach Session: Industrial Partnerships/Internships
 \nDate: Friday\, January 25\, 2013\nTime: 2:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m.\nLocation
 : Strathcona Anatomy and Dentistry Building\, Room M-1\, 3640 University S
t\nThe Office of Sponsored Research and Graduate and Postdoctoral Studies
are pleased to invite faculty members and graduate students to an outreach
session focusing on programs offering financial assistance to students in
terested in undertaking research through a university-business partnership
. This session would also benefit faculty members as these programs can le
ad to new connections with Canadian companies\, increased funding and uniq
ue training opportunities for graduate students and postdoctoral fellows t
hrough applied\, industrial research projects.\nMcGill will host three age
ncy representatives who will present their industry internship programs an
d provide helpful tips on how to mix and match these programs. They will a
lso provide details on projects that have successfully used these programs
to the advantage of graduate students\, postdoctoral fellows and research
 ers.\nSpeakers:  \n\nAnnik Brosseau\, Program Officer - FRQNT\nJesse Vince
 nt-Herscovici\, Director\, Strategic Accounts and Business Development\, M
 itacs\nFrançois Santerre\, Research and Innovation Development Officer – N
SERC \nDiscussion will center on\, but not be limited to\, the following p
rograms:\nBMP Innovation: Industrial Innovation Scholarships Program  \nTh
e objective of the Industrial Innovation Scholarships Program is to foster
the development of innovative capacity in companies and to improve employ
ment prospects for recent graduates of master's and doctoral programs thro
ugh university-industry partnerships. This program is offered jointly by N
SERC and the FRQNT.\nMitacs Accelerate \nThrough the Mitacs-Accelerate pro
gram\, graduate students and postdoctoral fellows apply their specialized
expertise to business-related research challenges. Interns (graduate stude
nts or postdoctoral fellows) bring new perspectives to the problems faced
by the industry partners by spending approximately half of their time on-s
ite with industry and the remainder at the university advancing their rese
arch under the guidance of a faculty supervisor. This program is open to a
ll disciplines and all industrial sectors\, and projects can span a wide r
ange of areas\, including manufacturing\, technical innovation\, business
processes\, IT\, social sciences\, design\, and more. This program is offe
red jointly by Mitacs and the FRQNT.\nNSERC Engage and Industrial R&D Fell
owships\nEngage Grants are intended to foster the development of new resea
rch partnerships between researchers and companies that have never collabo
rated before by supporting a short-term R&D project. These projects usuall
y involve graduate students and fellows\, and are great opportunities for
them to create long term research relationships with companies and/or pote
ntial employers. If the latter comes to fruition\, then industrial R&D fel
lowships could be appropriate\, as they provide important financial suppor
t to recent PhD graduates seeking careers in the Canadian private sector.
\n*Refreshments will be served.*\nPlease RSVP to OSR before Wednesday\, Ja
nuary 23rd at the following link.\n \n*Please note that participants will
be notified if the session should be cancelled due to insufficient attenda
 nce. *\n\n
