Advancing research across McGill

Research and Innovation (R&I) is responsible for the promotion and advancement of research across McGill and serves the research community in a variety of ways. Specifically, R&I directs the University’s overall institutional research mandate, manages the support services framework for research initiatives, and oversees outreach to key international institutions.

In addition, R&I supervises the administration of research centres and institutes, institutional animal care, special projects related to research and innovation, and strategic research development across the University.

R&I, through its Office of Sponsored Research, also provides advice, assistance and risk mitigation relating to sponsored research, grants and contracts for research. Additional key activities include: intellectual property management, ethics and compliance assistance and requirements, research-related data management, certifications, and the development of strategic grant proposals.
