All applications must be typed.
Applications must contain the following 6 elements, submitted individually as PDF files.
Incomplete applications will unfortunately not be considered.

REQUIRED DOCUMENTS

1. Application Form

Please download and complete the following form. 

For co-applicants, use the B form as many times as necessary. After completing the form, please print the entier document, sign all the required boxes then scan all pages (combining them into a single PDF) and please name the form as follows: Last Name, First Name (of the Principal Investigator) - RCN Research Grant Form

2. Proposal

Font and character size: Times New Roman, 12 point
Page set up: letter standard, 8.5 x 11 inches, 1 inch margins, single-spaced text, principal investigator's last name in right header, page number in right footer.
Length: maximum 5 pages (excluding references, figures and tables)
Sections: background, hypothesis, objective(s), methods, relevance and future outlook, team.

3. Appendix

References: maximum 50
Figures and/or tables: maximum 3
Any other document in the appendix will be ignored by the reviewers.

4. Budget Plan

Organized into categories of expenditures, with appropriate rationale with timeline of expenditures (maximum 2 pages)
At least 1 price quote required for items ≥ $3,500
Details of transfer of funds: institution where the funds will be deposited, name and contact information of financial Officer. The funds for the grants can be managed by the hospitals or their research institute.  They can also be managed by McGill University, if the affiliation of the PI with the University exists.
Budget plans should not exceed $100,000

5. Statement

Lay term abstract: overview of the proposed project in non-expert vocabulary aimed at a general public audience (maximum 1500 characters).
RCN perspective: statement on how the proposed project contributes to the goals and objectives of the RCN. This section should also include details on the collaborating sites, the nature and terms of this collaboration (contribution of each site to the execution of the proposal) and the training opportunities that will be provided (maximum one page).

6. Supporting Documents
The following elements must be combined into one PDF file and uploaded as such:

Letter of confirmation from Chief of Department / Service / Unit detailing host site contribution (using the standardized template included in the Application Form above) confirming relevance and feasibility -- required for Principal Investigator.
Curriculum vitae: maximum 7 pages, limit publications, abstracts and oral communications to the past 5 years (2012-2016) -- required for Principal Investigator and all Co-applicants.
Letters of collaboration defining scientific contribution of each co-applicant and collaborator to the project (maximum 1 page) -- required for each Co-applicant or Collaborator to the project.

Any application that does not comply with these instructions will not be considered. All applications must be submitted using the online application form provided. 

Scoring Criteria for Reviewers 

Quality and originality of proposal (/4)
-The project proposed is original and innovative
-The project targets cancer care quality improvement
-The project includes an objective assessment component
-The objectives correspond to the hypothesis and are realistically attainable by the methods proposed

Feasibility of the proposal within proposed teams and environments (/4)
-The methodological approach proposed is appropriate, realistic and feasible
-The team composition covers all relevant clinical / scientific skills required
-The clinical / scientific activity of the proposed sites is able to support the proposed research activity

Relevance of project to cancer care quality & research (/4)
-The project targets an unanswered question in the science or the implementation of cancer care quality
-The project builds on currently existing knowledge
-The research question is relevant
-Results from the proposed project will support larger research initiatives

Budget relevance (/4)
-The proposed budget realistically reflects the requirements to successfully complete the project (sufficiency)
-The proposed budget covers all aspects to successfully complete the project (comprehensiveness)
-The proposed budget does not contain elements corresponding to institutional operating expenses
-The proposed budget is in compliance with the terms and conditions of the RRF
-The proposed project could realistically persist beyond research activities with reasonable, minimal support (sustainability)

Relevance to the RCN goals and objectives (/4)
-The project is directly related to the science of cancer care delivery improvement
-The project involves more than one site as proportionally equal partners
-The project results in the development of cross site collaborative teams
-The project will generate knowledge / know-how or opportunities that can be exported to other RCN sites, priorities or initiatives
-The project has the potential for eventual alignment with disease site group activities
